ASEAN Para Sports Federation Commends International Facilities at PEPARNAS XVII

Solo, 8 October 2024 – The ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) expressed their appreciation for the organization of the 17th National Paralympic Week (PEPARNAS) Solo 2024.

In her statement at the PEPARNAS XVII Media Center in Solo, Central Java, on Tuesday (8 October 2024), the Secretary General of the ASPF, Wandee Tosuwan, stated that this year’s PEPARNAS facilities meet international standards.

She observed that the facilities and infrastructure for para-athletes in Indonesia have significantly improved over the past two years.

“I visited Indonesia two years ago and noticed a significant and dramatic change in the facilities in Indonesia and Solo. Hopefully, many international events will be held here in the future,” she said.
She also praised the lavish opening ceremony of PEPARNAS at Manahan Stadium in Solo on Saturday (6 October 2024). “The opening was very grand,” Tosuwan remarked.

Meanwhile, Senny Marbun, the Chairperson of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Indonesia, stated that the facilities and infrastructure are very suitable for hosting PEPARNAS.

“This event was originally planned to take place in North Sumatra, but due to circumstances, Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, relocated it to Central Java,” said Senny.

He mentioned that the minister was optimistic about Solo’s accessibility for people with disabilities.
“Moreover, Surakarta has previously hosted the ASEAN Para Games, and everything is already set up here. Considering that people with disabilities need access to everything,” Senny concluded. (Elvira Inda Sari/Taofiq Rauf)
